This thesis reflects on the political movement composed of the families of the dead and disappeared people in the brasilian Dictatorship (1964-1985). The etnography deals with a historical perspective to accompany the emergence of the relative's movement and his insertion in the public arenas dedicated to debating the violent past and promoting iniciatives to strengthen the rule of law and promote human rights. The goal is to understand how the public witnesses, claims and denounces of the relative's movement had been recognized as a way to convert family pains and trajectories into a collective experience, and build the "political dead and desappeared people" into a category through which the narratives on the Dictatorship turn to state responsibilities, rights and a better future with respect for human rights. The text underlines the category, narratives and practices mobilised by the movement to disputing the public space and to legitimise the relatives as the leading authorities on the past. I also discuss how, in this process, the "dead and desappeared relatives" are seen and feel themselves as a community composed by suffering and knowlegde subjects, with political strategies to report rights abuses and struggle for recognition. Finally, I ague that the dead and desappeared relatives are a moral and political community that imagine itself forged by struggle and vulnerability, through ties of affection and solidarity and in relationship between the movement actors, the dead and desappeared people, and the state institutions tha deals with his claims (AU) | |
