Abstract

Areas of Dense Ombrophilous Forest on karst landscapes are known only in the south of the São Paulo state and in the northeast of Paraná, in the Upper Paranapanema and Ribeira Valley basins, with emphasis on the Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park (PETAR). However, there have been few studies of floristic composition performed in these outcrops in the Atlantic Forest. The main aim of this study was to perform a floristic survey in limestone outcrops in the aforementioned Phytogeographical Domain. We collected fertile vascular plants in Caximba district (Apiaí, SP), in the PETAR, SP (Apiaí and Iporanga, SP) and in Rio Branco do Sul, PR. These collected plants were identified through the use of taxonomic literature, by comparison with specimens in the “Herbário Rioclarense” (HRCB) or by consulting specialists. A total of 383 vascular plants were collected, distributed in 95 families and 229 genera. Of this total, 78 families, 200 genera and 330 species of phanerogams were found and 17 families, 29 genera and 53 species of ferns and lycophytes. The most representative families were: Orchidaceae (41 species), Piperaceae (32), Bromeliaceae (21), Asteraceae (17) and Rubiaceae (16). Peperomia (23), Begonia (14), Piper (9), Vriesea (9) and Asplenium (9) were the major genera. These results demonstrate the high plant diversity in the studied limestone outcrops on the Atlantic Domain. They show a peculiar floristic composition, even when compared to other outcrops in the same Domain. The plant species richness on karst areas is still underestimated and this demonstrates the current importance of floristic surveys. (AU)
