Abstract

The proposed study identified and interpreted the surface coatings located on geomorphological levels defined by Penteado (1968), through the dating and correlation of levels: Neogene I (Surface Urucaia), Neogene II (Surface Rio Claro), high and low river terraces, and recent alluvium through technique Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) in soil parent material, about 1 meter deep, located on the respective surfaces areas. This technique allows you to assign specific periods of terrestrial evolution the origin of certain known weather conditions or modeled by absolute dating of surface coverings. The results allowed drawing relationships between such surface coverings and possible past environmental conditions, where they assume that the climate was characterized as semi-arid, later going through hot and humid conditions. Such episodes of quaternary climatic oscillations were responsible for the deposition of surface coatings that cover the identified geomorphological levels. Thus, it was possible to interpret and build regionalized scenario of climate fluctuations that occurred during the Quaternary, which enabled the deposition of surface coatings. It is also considered the influence of neotectonic activities in the development of landforms and deposits them. Thus, this study contributes to discussions on the genesis of shapes and relief evolution processes in the basin of river Corumbataí, and his correspondence with climate oscillations in the recent period the nature of the timescale (AU)
