Abstract

This research aimed to verify the use of the song in the construction of dramatic-narrative articulation in series and movies directed by Daniel Filho, one of the early pillars of narrative television products of Rede Globo de Televisão. The series, one of the most common form in the American television drama, are inserted into the grade of Rede Globo by the director in the late 1970s, when Daniel Filho career as a telenovela director was consolidated. It is possible to see the confluence of the two products in the analyzed data, particularly regarding a song used inside the narrative. Daniel Filho film career, despite having started before his entry into Rede Globo, only achieves success in the early 2000s after more than twenty years of television drama. Therefore, it is possible to see the influences of television products in his film¿s career. This project has mapped the entire series and films directed by Daniel Filho since 1978. The mapping of the song contained in the analyzed series and films allowed us to conclude that song takes on two distinct function within the narrative. We can conclude about their role in the construction of the narrative that the songs can be rated as Driving, Addition and Suspension songs. Already ahead to its use as sign marker, the song is used as a marker of Character, Situation and Location. This research also points out how the song-as-a-sign construction process is given. The "parasserialidade" and aesthetics of repetition, used both in telenovelas and movies, are important points within the construction of the intended meanings in interaction song-scene. This theory about the use of the song was also applied in previous work and it was possible to verify its validity. This project also tries to elucidate the role of professionals linked to the television and cinema soundtrack, face the song use decisions in the construction of meaning. Information from various theoretical sources were compared, including two interviews: one provided by the Globo Universidade program and other from Marcelo Toller, former artistic manager of Som Livre label (AU)
