Abstract

My intent is to analyze in this dissertation some transversal topics that proved to be inseparable in the ethnography I have made about crack users¿ family relationships in the cities of Sorocaba, São Paulo and Campinas. Notions such as "care" and "mistrust", but also "house" and even "family", allow us to think about the ways these people conceive ideas of connections and disconnections that are constituent of their social life. I also try to be careful with the importance of the objects social life analyses present in the crack users lives, considering that, besides being a methodological option to follow objectively such inter-relationships, it also contributes decisively in the constitution of a daily social imagination in wich there is practical meaning in theses trajectories. The notion of family is presented in an open and contextual manner, according to the clues offered by the research interlocutors to the meanings attributed to it, since I do not intend to define it beforehand. As from the reflection about the user and his or her social environment, his or her intersubjects relations and the social life of the crack rock, I also present the process of these families being torn apart due to the cohabitation that can become violent, oppressive and filled with mistrust. Such distancing of the person who consumes crack from his or her origin family and the material and social relations in their routine propel urban movements and new habitation on the streets, in institutions, and in prison. Along these movements the notion of family is updated, since new bonds happen (some resulting in children), pointing to the fact that it is necessary to rethink some usual conceptions (and structuring) associated to this universe: the one that these people deal only with disintegration and loss. I also reflect about the State, that is present through repression as well as in public measures of "care" offered to crack users, wich acts in the legislative sphere: contributing, therefore, for the formation of a certain imaginary, to the legitimation and maintenance of certain notions surrounding these familiar relations. Lastly, in order to reflect about such interconnections, I think about the shared maternity notion in this social context, mainly in the cases of mothers that consume crack (AU)
