Abstract

In this work it is presented a method for the prediction of the onset knock phenomenon on a spark ignition engine operating with hydrous ethanol (E95h). The method is based on the simulation of the engine, implemented in a two-zone non-dimensional model. A knock model considering multi-variable effects including pressure, temperature and octane number is formulated and calibrated with experimental data, based on Knock Integral Method found in literature. After the calibration, it is analysed the influence of such factors: ambient temperature, cylinder wall temperature, relative humidity, octane number and compression rate. The obtained results were coherent and expected despite low computational cost required and showed alternative ways to control knock occurrence (AU)
