Abstract

Measurement and documentation techniques for existing buildings are fully or partially manual, requiring time and effort in excess. When it comes to historic buildings, the need to document their life as well as their architectural elements are essential for intervention activities and making material available in a common data repository. In this sense, this work presents techniques of a survey of historical buildings for the creation of models based on Building Information Modeling (BIM). The topic is treated initially with a brief contextualization of the need for preservation of the artifact and a systematic literature review. The lineation of the research is done through a Design Science Research and characterized by the four objects of the study presented: Boa Morte Church, Piracicaba¿s Central Mill, Ballroom and São Francisco de Assis Church. The data collected from the buildings were processed and segmented to aid the modeling process. The modeling was performed in three ways: directly on the cloud of points, changing basic elements and creating detailed objects. Historical and general information about the object was inserted in the ontological structure program and connected to the model. The lack of automation in the modeling process, as well as the addition of the semantic information of the building to the model, were the main challenges where this work sought to contribute (AU)
