Abstract

This work is intended to discuss the use of performance index in steady state contingency analysis considering overload in transmission lines and transformers. The second order performance index is the most used due to the lowest computational effort, on the other hand, the use of this index results in a miss classification, called masking effect. In order to minimize the masking effect is developed a severity factor to each contingency based on fuzzy logic. This severity factor can be used either to multiply the second order performance index or as a index to classify the contingencies, named Fuzzy Index (IF). The results of both indexes are satisfactory, and they minimize the masking effect (AU)
