Abstract

Genetic predisposition in association to the predisposition of neonates to generate a Th2-type response to the allergen can favor the development of allergy in the neonatal period. This project aimed to investigate the regulatory mechanisms in the preconception immunization with ovalbumin in the offspring IgE response. Maternal immunization transferred intensively antibodies to offspring through both placenta and breastfeeding routes. Moreover, maternal immunization is able to inhibit the development of IgE response of the offspring, increase the CD80 expression on dendritic cells (DCs) from offspring and to maintain balanced the percentage of CD4 + CD25 + FoxP3 + T cells. The DCs from offspring co-cultured with antigen-specific T cells induce regulatory T cells. Maternal immunization directly influences the infant\'s immune system mainly by antibodies preventing the offspring sensitization and negatively modulating the allergic response. (AU)
