Abstract

Tribulus terrestris is widely used in Chinese folk medicine for the treatment of rheumatism, edema, hypertension, kidney stones, astringent, antihelmintic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, anticarcinogenic, diuretic, immunomodulatory, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders and for physical rejuvenation and erectile dysfunction. Therefore, the aim of this work was to develop a controlled release system of steroidal saponins from the extract standardized and enriched with Tribulus terrestris saponins by means of the microencapsulation technique, with possible application in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The antioxidant potential of the standardized and saponin-enriched extract of the microcapsules was evaluated by in vitro tests of stable free radical DPPH, Fe + 3 ion (FRAP), nitric oxide (NO) radical, lipid peroxidation (TBARS) and hemolytic method. The evaluation of the antiglican activity by the protein mobility method in electrophoresis and amino group determination was performed. Quantification of total phenolics, flavonoids and saponins was also performed by means of spectrophotometric and HPLC analysis of the standardized enriched extract and the compounds released by the microcapsules.
