Reading Strategies and war conflicts: connections beyond Monteiro Lobato's A chave do tamanho

Abstract

The present research, linked to the line “Formative Processes, Teaching and Learning” of the Postgraduate Program in Education at Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia de Presidente Prudente, aims to develop a proposal of activity metacognitive comprehension reader for the literary work "A chave do tamanho" by Monteiro Lobato, investigating how fifth-year elementary school students can establish relationships with war based on the connection reading strategy. We know that reading is not an easy activity, especially when we define reading as the attribution of meanings. In view of this: How can an activity proposal based on reading strategies help fifth year elementary school students to understand Monteiro Lobato's book “A chave do tamanho”? After all, the text has as its main theme the Second World War that took place from 1939 to 1945, very far from the students in question. Thinking about a solution to the question, we believe that if we mediate the reading of the book “A chave do tamanho” through the metacognitive strategies of reading comprehension (activation of prior knowledge, visualization, inference, connection, questioning, synthesis and summarization) proposed by Girotto; Souza (2010), in addition to Solé (1998) in the actions before, during and after reading and Kleiman (2016) who discusses the three previous knowledge (linguistic knowledge, world knowledge, textual knowledge), the basis of any reading strategy , fifth year students will establish relationships with everyday issues that are reflected in literature and will understand the book written by Monteiro Lobato. That said, the result of this research is based on the dialogue of a study with the use of children's and young people's literary texts with the theme of war, related to the work "A chave do tamanho", helping the teacher's work in the classroom, through the need for planning and systematization of the stages in the teaching of literature, with the objective of understanding the literary books and theme by the students. This is qualitative research, of a bibliographic-analytical-propositional nature. The discussions that will be forwarded add and dialogue with studies on Literature, whether in continuity with research on Children's Literature or with regard to its teaching. (AU)
