Abstract

The dissertation analyzes Editora Corrupio's formative process. This publishing house was launched with the book Portraits of Bahia (1979), by French ethnologist and photographer Pierre Verger. Corrupio dedicated itself to the publication of books that used Bahia as a thematic, and built its catalog based on this regional element , composing imaginaries about Salvador and the presence of African heritages in the city. Some of its members, as well as its first author, Pierre Verger, met in Paris, an important place of encounters and sociability along editors' trajectories. And many of these meetings had as intermediaries other figures who, like them, used to transit on both sides of the Atlantic, such as the writer Jorge Amado and the French sociologist Roger Bastide. With the participation of ZAZ Group members, a Salvador's important photography agency, Corrupio inherited an interest in working with images. Aiming to contribute with the history and anthropology of editorial practices, this dissertation articulates biographical elements of Corrupio's founders – Arlete Soares, Arnaldo Grebler, Cida Nóbrega, Enéas Guerra, Rina Angulo and Sara Silveira – with the circulation of people and ideas that permeated its formation and consolidation, between the 1970s and 1980s. In addition, attentive to the majority participation of women throughout Corrupio trajectory, an interesting characteristic when compared to others analyzed in academic studies. This work revisits the political, social and cultural contexts of Salvador, and reconstructs the transits of its publishers and books through interviews with characters who were part of the history of it, and makes the survey of its catalog, in which Pierre Verger became the great "flagship (AU)
