Abstract

I seek to analyze in this dissertation the notion of person, memory and mobility among the Pankararu, an indigenous group located in the village Brejo dos Padres in Pernambuco, and in the slum of Real Parque, in São Paulo. Emphasizing the trajectory of a family history that lived during thirty years in the "back and forth" among village and city, this dissertation seeks to demonstrate the senses that mobility acquires for the group. Mobility is apprehended in this work as a way of producing life, that is, a specific way of inhabiting the world. It connects different agents (state, indigenous, non-indigenous) and agencies (memory, healing, encantados, knowledge, suffering) that produce new territorialities. At the same time, I seek to understand relevant aspects of the cosmology and social organization of the group. For this, some elements such as house, memory, purity and suffering are important because they are conected, giving us means to widen our understanding of the notion of person among the Pankararu (AU)
