| Abstract | |
In 1996, a judicial process was initiated in Spain Against Argentine repressor. The process based on principles of universal justice had the active participation of first and second generations of Argentine exiles and helped to consolidate new ways of understanding the dictatorship in Latin American country. For those who had left Argentina against their will, the opening of criminal proceedings in the host country created an important space for debate on exile, but also allowed them to re-elaborate their lived experience. Before a court the didn’t intend to find culprits other than the security forces, exiles were able to speak and were heard, giving new colors and nuances to memories of the repressive period. For the children, this court case was very important. Despised as a category in the early years of democracy, and described only as a side effect of persecution, theses young people placed themselves in the public space, and impacts by the speeches conveyed by the courts, the media and their own family environment, showed that the consequences of exile went far beyond what had been dealt with until that moment. In this thesis, it’s shown how the role of the justice, in cases of human rights violations, goes far beyond judging. The theses and defenses used by it have repercussions in the public space and can help victims hitherto silenced to place themselves in the public space, making the memories of repression more plural and less crystallized (AU) | |
