Abstract

In this work, we propose a study of the novel Anna Karenina, by Leo Tolstoy, from the analysis of the literary procedures used to construct the character Anna Karenina, considering the discussions around the Woman Question, which gained strength in the 1860s in Russia. We relate this context to the way the character presents herself to the reader, discussing the relevance of the way this protagonist is represented considering the positivation of woman\'s desire. The approach considers above all the literary resources employed by the writer, with emphasis on the construction of the narrator and the points of view, the parallelisms and contrasts established in the novel and its psychological dimension, as in terms of ideological convictions he was not one of the intellectuals who defended the Woman Question; on the contrary, he was very critical of the women\'s movement. Our goal, along this path, is to highlight Anna Karenina\'s dialogical capacity and reflect on how a reading of a literary work is not subject to the intentionality of her authorship. It is discussed, therefore, how the procedures presented in a literary text can be related to a cause such as the one expressed by the Woman Question (AU)
