Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze István Mészáros' conception of education, as developed in the works Marx's trheory of alienation (Mészáros, 1972), Education - beyond capital and The challenge and burdem of historical time (Mészáros, 2008b). Still relatively little-known in the Brazilian educational research, Mészáros argues that, under the social metabolic system of capital, education means the internalization of the general reproductive parameters of the system. A contestation to education, by directly affecting the very processes of ideological internalization, thus represents a profound contestation to the social structure in question. If the general determinations of life reproduction profoundly affect every sphere of human existence, a radical social transformation can only take place with an effective contribution of education, understood in its broadest meaning.
