(EN) Machinable vitro-ceramics with high fracture toughness containing lithium metasilicate as the main phase (>50% volume and up to 80% volume) to enable machining of the vitro-ceramic and production of parts having high dimensional complexity are described. The machinable vitro-ceramics have a fracture toughness of at least 3.5±0.5 MPa.m1/2 using the double twisting method. The machinable vitro-ceramics have excellent machinability, translucency (transmittance in the region of the visible spectrum from 10% to 20%), good chemical durability (solubility in acetic acid <250 µg/cm2) and are cytotoxicity-free. The machinable vitro-ceramics are used to make ceramic parts with complex dimensions via machining, such as parts used in dental applications.
