Samuel Mendonça is a Permanent Professor in the Graduate Program in Education and in the School of Law at PUC Campinas. He served as a Visiting Scholar at Teachers College, Columbia University, in 2025, with funding from FAPESP. He is a member of the executive board of two international societies in Philosophy of Education: the Philosophy and Theory of Higher Education Society (PaTHES) and the International Network of Philosophers of Education (INPE). He serves on the editorial boards of the international journals Educational Theory (University of Illinois) and Philosophy and Theory in Higher Education.He is the leader of the research group Philosophia, Education and Sustainability (PhiloEduS). He serves as a consultant to CAPES and as an ad hoc reviewer for CNPq and FAPESP in the areas of Philosophy, Law, and Education. He is Principal Investigator at the Center for Science for Development (CCD/FAPESP), CPTEn, São Paulo Center for Studies on the Energy Transition. He holds a CNPq Research Productivity Fellowship (PQ 1D Education Evaluation Area).He completed postdoctoral research at the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo (2019) and at the Universidad de la República, Uruguay (2012), with funding from CAPES. He also served as a Visiting Scholar at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China (2014), funded by Santander Universidades, Top China Program, and at PUC Peru (2013, 2018, and 2023). He was a Permanent Professor in the Graduate Program in Law at PUC Campinas in 2019. He is Assistant Editor of the Journal Trabalho e Desenvolvimento Humano (Journal of the Regional Labor Prosecutors Office of the 15th Region).He holds a PhD in Philosophy of Education from Unicamp, an MA (Ethics specialization), and BA and Licentiate degrees in Philosophy from PUC Campinas. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Educação (Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas). He was President of the Brazilian Society of Philosophy of Education (SOFIE, 20182022), President of the Latin American Association of Philosophy of Education (ALFE, 20112015), Secretary of SOFIE (20162018), Vice-Coordinator of the National FORPRED (ANPEd, 20142015), and Coordinator of FORPRED Southeast (ANPEd, 20132014).He served two terms as Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Education at PUC Campinas (20102018) and as Coordinator of the Research and Extension Center of the Center for Human Sciences and the Center for Human and Applied Social Sciences (20062010). He is a member of several international scholarly societies, including PaTHES, PES (Philosophy of Education Society), INPE, and ALFE. He has presented papers and delivered invited lectures in countries such as Argentina, Chile, China, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ireland, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Czech Republic, and Uruguay.He is the author of Aristocratic Education in Nietzsche: Individual Achievement (2018) and co-editor of A escola: problema filosófico and A escola: questão pública (with Sílvio Gallo, 2020).
