Graduated in Biological Sciences (1977) and Ph.D. in Biochemistry (1981) by the Universidade de São Paulo. Postdoctoral fellow at the Institute Pasteur, Paris (1981-83) and at the EMBL Heidelberg, Germany (1983). He became Assistant Professor at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo (1984) and joined the New York University Medial Center (1988-91). In 1997 he became Full Professor of Microbiology at the Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil. He is currently member of the Editorial board of Microbes and Infection, Cellular Microbiology, and Protein and Peptide Letters. His research is in the area of Molecular and Cell Biology of Trypanosomes with focus on studies of sialidases, gene expression regulation, protein synthesis, and nucleus organization. At the present, it participate in the Center for Research, Innovation and Diffusion about antimicrobial resistance (ARIES) (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
