Carla Cristina Polo

Researcher at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), part of the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), Campinas-SP and develops research focused on scattering and X-ray diffraction imaging techniques applied to biological systems. She works in the CATERETÊ group, in the technical development of coherent X-ray scattering (CDI) aiming to characterize cells and biological tissues. She applies such techniques to develop scientific projects related to the comprehension of the nano architecture of the plant cell wall with biotechnological applications. She is a collaborating researcher in the Postgraduate Program in Plant Biology (PPG-BV) at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). She completed her postdoc at the ID10 beamline at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) Grenoble, France. She acquired her master's and doctorate degrees, both in Functional and Molecular Biology (BFM), with an emphasis on biochemistry at the Institute of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and developed her thesis project at the National Biosciences Laboratory (LNBio-CNPEM). Throughout her postgraduate studies, she worked on the structural and mechanistic characterization of biotechnologically relevant glycosidic hydrolases, using biophysical techniques, protein crystallography and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). She completed her sandwich doctorate at VTT, Espoo -Finland for the manipulation of fungi and enzymatic characterization. She holds a degree in Biological Sciences - Bachelor's and Degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas (PUC-Campinas, Brazil). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
