We will investigate physical and mathematical properties of quantum spin chains. The focus will be in two aspects of the quantum inverse scattering method. The project aims at the student"s introduction to the area of critical phenomena and phase transition, in particular the study of exactly integrable models. The student will apply his understanding on the free fermions model (by the Jordan-Wiegner transformation) and the Bethe ansatz. (AU)
