1,261 / 5,000He holds a degree in Mathematics from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1977), a master's degree in Mathematics from the University of São Paulo (1981), an M Sc In Numerical Analysis - Oxford University Computing Laboratory (1983) and a Ph D In Numerical Analysis - Oxford University Computing Laboratory (1987). He was director of ICMC-USP from 2006 to 2010, president of the Brazilian Society of Applied and Computational Mathematics for two terms, 2005 to 2007 and 2007 to 2009, and has been a full professor at the University of São Paulo since 2000, and a visiting professor (2012 to 2024) at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, an international Fellow of the Royal Society Edinburgh (2012) IntFRSE and a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2014). From 2013 to 2024 he worked as coordinator of Cepid-CeMEAI, Center for Applied Mathematical Sciences in Industry, a research and technology project supported by Fapesp and several companies.Research area: Numerical Analysis, working mainly on the following topics: Simulation of incompressible flows and flows with free surfaces, non-Newtonian flows, finite difference methods, numerical methods for ordinary and partial differential equations, and Fredholm and Cauchy integral equations.
