Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (1984). Residence (1987), master's (1996) and doctorate (2001) degrees in Medicine (Preventive Medicine), University of São Paulo, and post-doctoral program in Maternal and Child Health at Cemicamp (2004). Postdoctoral (visiting reader) at King's College London, Women's Health Division (2012). She is a full professor in the Department of Health, Life Cycles and Society at the School of Public Health, University of São Paulo (2011). She collaborated for 20 years with the Collective Feminist Sexuality and Health (1985-2004) in health care activities, research and training. She has experience in Medicine, with emphasis on preventive medicine, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Gender Violence, Gender and Maternal Health, Maternal and Child Health, evidence-based Public Health. She was a regional coordinator (Southeast Region) of the Birth in Brazil National Survey (2010-2012). Coordinates the CNPq group GEMAS (Gender and evidence on maternity and health). She was head of the Department of Maternal and Child Health Public Health School of USP (2014-2017). She coordinates the Mother and Child-friendly Hospital Initiative implemmentation study, with a FAPESP grant.Coordinates the Potential Lost Days of Pregnancy (DPGP) project: an innovative measure of gestational age to assess maternal and child health interventions and outcomes, supported by the CNPq and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
