Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). Centro de Biologia Molecular e Engenharia Genética (CBMEG)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Graduated in Biological Sciences from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1996), Master's degree in Pharmacology from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (1999), and PhD in Clinical Medicine from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2003). Post-doctorate in Molecular Biology (2005) at the Molecular Biology Laboratory of the UNICAMP Blood Centre; post-doctorate in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Evolution (20072011) at the Plant Molecular Biology Laboratory in the Genetics Department of ESALQ. In 2012 and 2013, he worked as a guest researcher in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB, Canada. There, he was in charge of the computational biology and statistical analyses of the transcriptomes of economically important forest pests that were being studied by the BEGAB project, Budworm Eco-Genomics: Applications Biotechnology. (http://rclevesque.ibis.ulaval.ca/en/home/research-area/begab-budworm-ecogenomics-applications-and-biotechnology/).He is currently a researcher at the Centre for Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering (CBMEG) at UNICAMP and is responsible for the Laboratory of Integrative and Systemic BiologyLaBIS (https://labis.cbmeg.unicamp.br). His main lines of research are systemic and integrative characterisation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae transcriptomics for the production of bioproducts; systems biology applied to agriculture (transcriptomics and genomics); and development of new tools for analysing molecular and biological data. A new line of action is being implemented and involves the development of in silico-assisted intelligence systems to support the diagnosis and monitoring of patients suffering from myeloid leukaemia, Alzheimer's disease, and type 2 diabetes. He also works in the BioTI area and is responsible for administering Thunder and LaBIS CLOUD high-performance computing systems for use in analysing bioinformatics applied to agriculture and bioenergy. He has helped other research groups set up computer systems for analysing biological data and managing large volumes of data.I am one of the creators of the Ludis project, an innovative initiative that uses board games to promote active learning in science. Selected for the Santander Explorer program, Ludis is the only Portuguese-language project in the 2024 edition and the first from Brazil to reach the final of this program.
