Marcelo Ribeiro is an associate professor of the Chemical Engineering Department at Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), where he has been since 2013. From 2010 to 2012 he worked as a professor at Federal University of São João Del-Rei (UFSJ), in the Department of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering. He received a B.S. in 2002 and his Ph.D. in 2007, both in Chemical Engineering from UFSCar. During his Ph.D. he studied as an intern in the Othmer Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences and Engineering at Polytechnic University (NY). He was a postdoctoral fellow at Cleveland State University (OH), in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. His research interests are in modeling, simulation, optimization and monitoring of bioprocesses. He has been focusing in several industrial bioprocesses for production of: bioethanol from sugarcane; prebiotics from dairy residues; antibiotics via green chemistry and vaccines.
