Graduated in Meteorology from the University of São Paulo (1980), Master in Meteorology from the National Institute for Space Research (1984), Ph.D. in Meteorology from the University of Maryland (1993) and post-doctorate from Columbia University (1999). He received the titles of Honorary Hydrographer and Friend of the Navy, granted by the Brazilian Navy. He is currently a CNPq 1D Productivity Scholar, researcher at the National Institute for Space Research, Coordinator of the development of the Brazilian Earth System Model - BESM; and Coordinator of the PIRATA Brazil National and member of the Scientific Committee of the PIRATA Project; member of the Safe Landing Climate workgroup of the Lighthouse Activities Program of the World Climate Research Program (WCRP) - Reviewer of the Journal of Climate, Climate Dynamics and Nature. He has experience in Geosciences, with an emphasis on Meteorology and Oceanography, working mainly on the following subjects: coupled ocean-cryosphere-biosphere-atmosphere modeling; Tropical Atlantic oceanography; sea ice; seasonal climate predictability and global climate change.
