Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and Biochemistry (Oswaldo Cruz Faculty, 1997), Master's in Parasitology from the Institute of Energy and Nuclear Research - USP (1999), PhD in Parasitology (Institute of Biomedical Sciences - USP) (2003) with a sandwich period at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) - University of London (under the supervision of Prof. Simon L. Croft). Postdoctoral research at UNIFESP (Physiology). He was a researcher at the Adolfo Lutz Institute from 2004 to 2023, coordinator of the New Drugs for Neglected Diseases Laboratory, and vice-director of the Center for Parasitology and Mycology (2009-2023). Permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Toxinology (2024-present). Faculty member (2006-present), vice-coordinator (2010-2021) of the PPG-CCD (State Health Department), and coordinator of the Laboratory Research in Public Health area (2010-2021). Faculty member (2010-present) of the Graduate Program at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo. Area of expertise: New drugs for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) with an emphasis on Leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, and since 2017, multi-resistant bacteria. Conducts studies on in vitro and in vivo efficacy of pharmaceutical prototypes (Drug Discovery), studying mechanisms of action and therapeutic associations. One of the research focuses is the isolation of low molecular mass molecules from marine invertebrates, marine bacteria, and extremophiles. Through 4 SPRINT FAPESP projects that he coordinated, he maintains international partnerships with the University of Oxford (UK), University of Southampton (UK), Ohio State University (USA), King's College London (UK), as well as collaborative partnerships with the University of Dundee (UK), University of Auckland (New Zealand), Universität Münster (Germany), Friedrich-Schiller University Jena (Germany), University of Bangor (UK), Center for Biological Research (Spain), Universidad La Frontera (Chile), and LSHTM (UK). Coordinated a public-private project with the pharmaceutical company GSK from the UK (Trust in Science 2011-2014) on leishmaniasis. Since 2011, he has been a founding member of the international research network Research Network - Natural Products for Neglected Diseases at Universität Münster (Germany). Since 2018, he has been a member of the Editorial Board - Infectious Diseases of the journal Scientific Reports (Nature Group). He periodically acts as an ad hoc reviewer for international agencies such as Research Councils (RCUK), Health Research Board (Ireland, UK), Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR-France), Conycit (Argentina), National Science Centre (Poland). Production: publications: 158 articles (H-index 35); supervised 12 Masters theses, 11 PhDs, and 5 postdoctoral researchers. He is a co-author of a patent application in the area of drugs for Chagas disease and won the Kurt Politzer Technology Award from the Brazilian Association of the Chemical Industry in 2021.
