de Sousa M. V. has a degree in Nutrition from the University of Mogi das Cruzes (2001), a master's degree in Experimental Nutrition from the University of São Paulo (2005) and a PhD from the Endocrinology Division of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo with a sandwich period in the Department of Sports Sciences , Idraett Institute at Aarhus University, Denmark (2010) with a FAPESP grant. Post-doc in Health Sciences from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (2015) with support from FAPESP. Her main research is in Exercise Physiology and Sports Nutrition. She works in the following areas of interest: physiological and molecular responses to exercise and nutritional intervention in athletes and patients with chronic metabolic diseases; diet, nutritional supplementation and exercise on gene expression; nutritional supplementation, physical performance and recovery optimization in elite athletes; nutritional strategies and exercise on inflammation and tissue injury markers; sarcopenia, bone markers and osteosarcopenia. Investigating the nutritional profile and nutritional strategies in high-performance athletes were the main themes of scientific initiation, master's, doctorate and post-doctoral researches, and is therefore recognized for nutritional following up of elite runners and marathon runners, improving their performance in competitions. In parallel, she has always worked researches regards nutritional intervention and physical activity in chronic metabolic patients. Recently, her interets is in molecular biology, investigating the impact of a low-calorie diet and physical training on molecular and hormonal modulations in type 2 diabetes patients. In 2012, she started a research employing sports as a strategy to treat type 2 diabetes, evaluating the combined effects of a low-calorie diet and recreational football or running training on indicators of insulin resistance, bone health and gene expression, with support from FAPESP. In 2019, she received an award for best research in Football is Medicine from Southern Denmark University, and then later, in 2022, she was invited by Prof. Fiona Bull, head of the Department of Physical Activity at the World Health Organization (WHO), to participate as speaker showing the results of this projet at SPORT FOR HEALTH CONFERENCE incorporating the 4th Annual Meeting of Football is Medicine, in Doha, Qatar, host country of the Football World Cup. She has more than 10 years of experience as a professor in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the area of Nutrition and Exercise, in the following contents: human nutrition, sports nutrition, nutritional assessment, dietary intervention on diseases (dietary strategies in chronic non-communicable diseases), nutritional education, research project on sports nutrition. She has over 22 years of experience as a sports and clinical nutritionist helping highly trained athletes, patients with metabolic chronic diseases (obese, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrom, hypertension), and individuals of all ages with the goal of well-being. email: maysavsousa@gmail.com (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
