Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas (ICB) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
PhD in Science with a specialization in Microbiology, focusing on Virology, from the University of São Paulo - USP, with a research exchange at the Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement - CIRAD in Guadeloupe, France. She holds a degree in Medical Biological Sciences from the University of Mogi das Cruzes and began her scientific career at the University of São Paulo, completing an internship in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a focus on Mycology and a scientific initiation in Biomedical Sciences with a focus on Microbiology (2005), both at USP. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Microbiology at USP, concentrating primarily on research on emerging viruses such as West Nile virus, Hantavirus, Influenza A, Newcastle Disease, and Flaviviruses. During her postdoc, she worked as a visiting researcher at the Viral Special Pathogens Branch (VSPB) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - CDC in Atlanta, USA, conducting research on emerging and re-emerging viruses of global interest and working in biosafety levels BSL-3 and BSL-4, with viruses such as Sabiá, Nipah, Hendra, Sousuga, Marburg, and Ebola. With over 20 years of experience in biosafety, training, microbiology, ecology, and epidemiology, with an emphasis on virology, her primary focus includes biosafety, emerging and re-emerging viruses, fieldwork, collection of biological samples from humans and wildlife, molecular and serological diagnostics of viral infections, and molecular epidemiology of viruses. From 2009 to 2017, she was the lead researcher at Brazil's first maximum biosafety laboratory, the BSL3+ at the Biomedical Sciences Institute II USP, and since 2018, she has served as a collaborating researcher on projects related to the study and prevention of SARS-CoV-2, as well as the PREVIR Project of the Virus Network under MCTI.She co-founded the volunteer digital platform EPISaúde, which assisted healthcare professionals with technical-scientific guidance on the proper use and management of personal protective equipment (PPE) during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also co-founded Digital Bio Media, a project specializing in online biosafety training for schools, companies, and healthcare centers, and founded EPI Bio, a company specializing in biosafety training and consulting. Today, she works as a Biosafety Manager in the biosafety program for high and maximum biological containment laboratories at the Brazilian National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) and is involved in the Orion project, which includes the construction of Brazils first maximum biological containment laboratory, the BSL-4 brazilian lab!
