has a Bachelor Degree in Economics from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas -UNICAMP (1991), a Masters Degree in Economic History from the Universidade de São Paulo - USP (1997) and A Phd in Applied Economics from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas - UNICAMP (2003). He also undertook pots-doctorate research at CEM/CEBRAP from 2007 to 2009. He is currently Professor and Researcher in the fields of Economic History/Brazilian Economy and International Economics at the Institute of Brazilian Studies (IEB) of the University of São Paulo (USP) and also a member of the Center of Studies on Brazil/Africa (NAP Brasil-África) at USP. More recently, his research projects revolve around three main areas: labour market and inequality in Brazil; the role of of developmentalism in the Brazilian history, especially through the contribution of the economist Romulo Almeida; and the Brazilian economy's pattern of international integration, focusing mainly on the impacts brought about by the China rising and on the potential of South-to-South cooperation.
