Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). Campus de Botucatu. Instituto de Biociências (IBB)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Childhood in a rural environment and close contact with nature were certainly very important in shaping my professional directions in the field of Biological Sciences (BS). Another decisive factor was linked to the difficulties of rural work in the 1980s and 1990s, which required changes, and studying was the way forward. Based on this, I pursued a degree in BS at UEL (19901995), followed by a Masters (19951997) and a PhD (19972000) in Genetics and Evolution at UFSCar, with part of my doctoral studies conducted at Dalhousie University, Canada.I am currently a Full Professor at the Institute of Biosciences of Botucatu, São Paulo State University (UNESP). I have previously served as Head (20092011; 20132015) and Deputy Head (20072009) of the Department of Morphology, Executive Director (20082010) and President (20112013) of FUNDIBIO Foundation of the Institute of Biosciences, Director of the Institute of Biosciences of Botucatu at UNESP (20172021), and Chief of Staff of the Rectory of UNESP (20212025). Since January 15, 2025, I have held the position of Vice-Rector of UNESP.My academic experience lies in the areas of Genomic and Chromosomal Evolution and Science Communication, with 154 scientific articles and 8 books published. On a personal note, life has also allowed me to develop major projects, especially the generation of F1 Julia and Laura. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
