She holds a Master's degree in Geology and Geochemistry from the Federal University of Pará (1990), Phylosophy Doctor (concentration area of Sedimentology/Stratigraphy) from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado (USA) (1996). She was a researcher at the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi between 1988 and 2004. She served as a senior researcher at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) from 2004 to 2018, after which she started working at that institute as a retired collaborating researcher. She develops research focusing on sedimentology, stratigraphy, remote sensing and geomorphology aiming at the reconstitution of Cretaceous and Cenozoic landscapes, mainly in Amazonian areas.
