Graduated in Electronics Engineering from Universidade de São Paulo (1973). Got a Master's degre in Applied Mathematics (Computer Science) from Universidade de São Paulo (1979) and a Ph. D. in Computer Science from Stanford University (1988). Has been a faculty member of the Institute of Computing, State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) since aug/1992, where he is now Full Professor . Works on compuer graphics and image processing, computer vision, numerical methods, graph theory, and neuronal network modeling. Contrinuted over 1000 articles to the English wikipedia. Has also been an advocate for secure voting in Brazil and denounced the incurable flaws and frauds of cryptocurrencies. From mar/2005 to mar/2009 was Dean of the Computer Science Institute, UNICAMP.
