Dr. Colombo received his medical degree from the Escola Paulista de Medicina, Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil, where he also continued his residency training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases (1983-1986). He completed his fellowship in Medical Mycology at the University of Texas Health Science Centre at San Antonio, Texas, USA (1992-1994). He is currently a Professor of Medicine in the Federal University of São Paulo, and he serves as a consultant on Medical Mycology for several institutions in Brazil and Latin America.He was the Vice-Chancellor of Graduate Students and Research of the Federal University of São Paulo between February 2009 and February 2012. Dr Colombo was a senior advisor for Leading International Fungal Education (LIFE, 2013-2021), as we as integrated the International Council Member of the International Immunocompromised Host Society (2016-2921). Currently he is Senior Advisor for the Global Action for Fungal Infections (GAFFI, 2013 - present) and convenor of INFOCUS LATAM ISHAM Working Group (2019-present). Recently, he was nominated fellow of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (2018) and Permanent Member of the Brazilian Academy of Science (2020).Dr. Colombo has authored and co-authored a total of 231 publications in peer-reviewed journals, accumulating more than 17,300 citations (H index 69, google academic). He has organized several multicentre surveillance studies to characterize the epidemiology and clinical aspects of Candida spp. Aspergillus spp. and Trichosporon invasive infections. In addition, he coordinated and/or participated of several studies to characterize the burden of antifungal resistance and molecular mechanisms involved. Finally, he coordinated or co-authored several guidelines for the clinical management of fungal infections that were organized by local and international academic and/or medical societies.
