Full Professor at the Paulista School of Medicine. PQ2 Productivity Fellow 01 March 2022 to 28 February 2025. Graduated in Medicine from FEMPa (State of Pará) (1983-1988), followed by Specialisation in Clinical Medicine at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo (1989-1991) and Medical Residency in Infectology at Instituto de Infectologia Emílio Ribas (IIER) (1993-1995). He studied for a Master of Science (MSc) in Applied Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), University of London-UK, completed in 1998 and validated by the University of São Paulo in 1999. PhD obtained in 2008 from the Postgraduate Programme in Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo (FCMSCSP). Adjunct Professor of Infectious Diseases at FCMSCSP until now and Coordinator of the Infectious Diseases Clinic at the Irmandade da Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo, working 40 hours a week until 2018. Member of the Board of the Postgraduate Programme in Health Sciences at FCMSCSP since 2017. As of 2018, Adjunct Professor (currently C1) of the Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Discipline (DIPA) of the Department of Medicine at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP)-Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM). Since 2019, Supervisor of Medical Residency in Infectious Diseases at the Discipline of Infectious Diseases at EPM-UNIFESP. Since 2020, he developed and coordinates the innovative and multidisciplinary Fellowship in Musculoskeletal Infections (IME) course at the Traumatology Discipline of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at EPM-UNIFESP, offered annually with a workload of 1168 hours, aimed at improving the skills of infectious disease doctors and orthopaedic surgeons. He is an ad-hoc reviewer for international journals in the field of musculoskeletal infections and for funding agencies. He has experience in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, working mainly on the following topics: Biofilm-Associated Infections, Medical Implant-Associated Infections, Osteoarticular Infections and Orthopaedic Prostheses, Skin and Deep Tissue Infections, with a consolidated line of research. Technical coordinator (2009, 2016 and 2020) of the Working Group (WG) for the Development and Periodic Review of Criteria for Defining and Preventing Infections in Surgeries in General, and in Surgeries with Implants/Prostheses, ANVISA.
