Abstract

The broadband emission (I-4(13/2) -> 4 I-4(15/2)) of the Er3+-doped glasses has been always an attractive topic of research due to its explicit role in the progress of optical fibers science and technology. Few characteristics, such as the full-width at half-maximum, shape and excited state lifetime of this band are determinant parameters to obtain practically appropriate materials for high-tech applications. In this work, the broadening of the latter near-infrared emission of erbium ions, centered around 1.53 mu m in C-band region, is briefly discussed as a function of the host glass, glass modifiers, temperature and thickness of the sample, excitation power and energy, as well as the concentration of the dopant (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V.
