Abstract

Resistance training have been applied on health promotion and disease´s treatments. Among the tipes of resistance training, is the functional resistance training which has been highlighted in recent times. However lacks studies evaluating its influence on aspects such as autonomic modulation (AM), body composition , muscular strength (MS) and cardiorespiratory parameters in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS). This study analyze and compare the effects of conventional resistance training vs. functional resistance training on AM, body composition, MS and cardiorespiratory parameters in MetS patients. For its realization 60 subjects of both sexes, aged between 40 and 60 years old, who have MetS were evaluated and divided by groups: for the first paper two training groups (functional vs conventional) with 19 subjects each one, and for the second paper tree groups (functional, conventional and control) with 19 subjects for each training group and 12 controls. The FRT and CRT groups were periodized by 12 weeks, totalizing 30 training sessions. The autonomic modulation indexes of heart rate variability were used to evaluate AM and these indexes were obtained in the time domain (RMSSD and SDNN), frequency domain (LF, HF, LF / HF), geometric indices (Poincaré plot, triangular interpolation of NN intervals (TINN) and triangular index (RRtri) and chaos domain indexes (Chaotic globals index and Higuchi Fractal Dimension). The evaluation of MS was made by 1maximum repetition, the body composition was evaluated by bioimpedance and BMI, and the cardiorespiratory parameters analyzed were blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturarion. The results showed that functional resistance training is better than conventional resistance training for benefits in AM promoting higher parasymphatetic action, although there were not differences on chaos domain among the groups. Just the functional group improved arterial blood pressure (ABP) when comparing pre and post training moments. However both training increased MS equally and none of the training programs promoted alterations on body composition. In conclusion, the functional resistance training is better than conventional resistance training to promote positive effect on AM and to reduce ABP, however both increased MS and did not change body composition in MetS individuals post 30 training sections.
