Abstract

This paper proposes four algorithms for routing, core, modulation level, and spectrum assignment (RCMLSA) based on image processing to search for the available spectrum of multicore fibers at low computational cost. The solutions aim at efficiently utilizing the optical spectrum by considering the crosstalk between the cores of network fibers, as well as by avoiding the allocation of lightpaths that degrade the optical signal. Lightpaths are thus allocated employing the highest possible level of modulation. The results show that the proposed algorithms can decrease the blocking ratio by four orders of magnitude when compared with other RCMLSA algorithms in the literature. (AU)
