In this study the thermal, mechanical and magnetic properties of the Fe-24.5%at.Ni-10%at.Co, Fe-22.5% at.Ni-10%at.Co, Fe-22.5%at.Ni-12%at.Co, Fe-26.5%at.Ni-10%at.Co and Fe-26.5%at.Ni-8%at.Co alloys initially annealed were studied by different experimental techniques for understanding the predicted first-order magnetic transition occurring at about 473 K in the Fe-24.5%at.Ni-10%at.Co alloy. The results showed that the annealing heat treatment does not significantly change the properties of the studied Fe-Ni-Co alloys. The alloys presented a first-order magnetic transition from a high magnetization saturation state to a near zero magnetization at about 1000 K during heating and about 500 K during cooling. This high thermal hysteresis was associated with the presence of a precipitation reaction. This material also presented good mechanical properties. The results also showed that suppressing the Fe3Ni precipitation reaction in these alloys may enable the material to show magnetic properties adequate for its application in thermomagnetic motors.
