| Abstract | |
This article reflects about the practice of Counselling Psychology (CP) in Latin America and the challenge of offering this practice in contexts of poverty and inequalities. We defend a CP that can offer a practice outside the standards of conventional clinical care, considering the individuals and their institutional relationships; valuing community support networks, and the care resources existing in these communities; avoiding pathologising and categorising people; and being open to the multiple demands while the professionals' role is to facilitate the process in which users become autonomous individuals able to make decisions about their lives.
