Abstract
Abstract The aim of this article is to reflect on the narrative strategies employed by the naturalist Alexandre Rodrigues Ferreira in the “General and particular observations on the class of mammals”, signed in 1790, in order to meet some of the objectives of the Philosophical Journey (1783-1792) through the captaincies of Grão-Pará, Rio Negro e Mato Grosso. From the comparison of texts, we will analyze the choices and textual appropriations made from books and manuscripts consulted during the expedition. In addition, we will also show that the writing presents knowledge that resulted from the naturalist's own observations and appropriations of indigenous knowledge. (AU)
