Resumo

Os biomas Cerrado e Caatinga possuem os principais estoques de terras disponíveis para expansão agrícola no Brasil, além de possuírem áreas de elevado potencial solar e eólico. Seus recursos naturais são essenciais para a regulação do clima e bem-estar humano. O objetivo geral desta proposta é, através de uma abordagem participativa, que integre métodos qualitativos e quantitativos das ciências naturais e sociais em múltiplas escalas, propor estratégias que permitam a transição para um futuro sustentável nestes dois biomas, através da definição de cenários e indicadores que reconciliem as dimensões econômicas, sociais e ambientais (os três pilares da sustentabilidade) na produção agrícola, energética e uso de recursos naturais. O projeto está organizado em etapas com objetivos específicos. A Etapa 1 consiste na produção de indicadores sobre as dimensões social, econômica, institucional e ambiental da área de estudo, visando à construção de índices de sustentabilidade que reflitam a situação atual (passado e presente) em alinhamento com demandas nacionais. A Etapa 2 foca no futuro da área de estudo, através da construção de cenários qualitativos e quantitativos, construídos de modo participativo. Elementos de histórias sobre o futuro serão quantificados, gerando projeções espacialmente explícitas de mudanças de uso da terra, do clima regional e seus impactos (traduzidos em um conjunto expressivo de indicadores socioambientais, incluindo recursos hídricos, vegetação, biodiversidade, agricultura, energia, descargas elétricas atmosféricas, ciclos biogeoquímicos, entre outros). Por fim, a Etapa 3 engloba atividades de síntese entre as escalas, assim como de análise de mecanismos de transformação social visando alcançar a sustentabilidade (trajetórias). (AU)
