School Service: Study of the profile of the clientele

Abstract

A descriptive and documentary study, with no hypothesis test, aiming to establish the general demographic and psychological profile and the specifics of the clients of the Center for Research and Applied Psychology "Dr. Betti Katzenstein" (CPPA), Faculty of Sciences and Letters of Assis . A key question is how to move from the descriptive level of client profile research to a dynamic understanding of the psychological characteristics of particular groups or subgroups. Could this information be based on action or prevention? If the idea of establishing a clientele profile is not new, the challenge that is being addressed is how to deal with ever-changing complaints, for example, suicide and self-harm in adolescents; the place of the elderly in psychotherapeutic services and the medicalization of children. A concern of the researcher is the development of methods appropriate to an objective picture of the groups of patients that use the services of Mental Health. In this context, the choice of psychotherapy is a specific cut, given that the clinic is expected to be one of the services offered to the community by the School Services. The research material will be the medical records opened during the years 2018 and 2019, by the Unified Patient Reception Service, whether these are new patients or those who have previously attended and are seeking new psychological follow-up. The data will be sorted in spreadsheets, according to (1) age range, as defined by the World Health Organization; (2) beginning of treatment, absences, frequency and duration of psychological follow-up; (3) complaint verbalized by the patient; (4) sex; (5) schooling; (6) type of routing; (7) services previously performed. Throughout the research, other categories will be defined from the combination of the previous ones or from the election of new aspects. A specific procedure developed by the researcher - the Human Figure Drawing with History - will be associated with some initial interviews and developed as an extra source of data for the study of the psychological profile of certain groupings. It is hoped that this project will map the needs of the population that uses the School Service, describes the quantitative and psychodynamic aspects involved in its profile and contribute to the development of other School Services.
