Abstract

The dentin hypersensitivity (DH) consists in a clinical condition of multifactorial etiology characterized by acute painful response to different nature external stimuli, due to the presence of clinically exposed dentin. This situation can result in anxiety and loss of patient's life quality, and its long-term treatment is complex. So far there is not a totally effective protocol for its control. In this context, the objective of the present interventional, randomized controlled, double blind and split-mouth study, will be to evaluate the irradiation of clinically exposed dentin with a 980nm diode laser, associated or not with fluoride varnish, in the short and long term clinical management of DH.For this, 45 patients with at least three teeth in different hemi-arches, with gingival recession and higher than score 4 on VAS scale after evaporative stimuli, will be selected and treated according to the different proposed clinical protocols (irradiation with 1W diode laser; 1W diode laser + fluoride varnish or fluoride varnish only). The evaluation of DH will be performed before the treatment, immediately after the treatment, as well as after 1 week, 1, 6 and 12 months from treatment.
