Abstract

This project aims to develop new methodologies based on the use of the DGT technique - associated with mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma optics and atomic fluorescence with cold vapor generation or hydrides, in order to evaluate the biogeoavailability of metals and semimetals in soils. In addition to methods based on DGT, new methods based on the use of bioindicators (mainly plant material) will be developed by the implementation of phytoscreening.Studies will focus on the application of the DGT technique to evaluate the biogeoavailability in soils of some non-essential elements such as Al and Ni and of micronutrients such as Co, Cu, Mn, V and Zn. Basically, the tests involving DGT will consist of the collection and preparation of soil samples, followed by immersions in the laboratory using standard procedures (however, two of the main DGT parameters associated with analyte lability will be evaluated: immersion time and diffusive gel thickness). Results obtained by DGT and phytoscreening will be compared. The study areas will involve soils from sites contaminated by aromatic hydrocarbons (potentially able to increase the lability of EPTs), soils close to an uranium mine (Osamu Utsumi, Caldas, MG), soils close to mining areas, agricultural activities and geogenic anomalies in the Valley of Ribeira (SP) and soils and sediments in wetlands in the municipality of Nhecolândia (MS).We hope that this project, in addition to pioneering research on the biogeoavailability of EPTs and micronutrients in soils, will deepen international research collaboration previously funded by FAPESP (Program Sprint - 15 / 50306-4) and complement other funded projects by FAPESP (PFPMCG - Research - Thematic, 16 / 14227-5).
