The main objective of the project is to develop a zinc-rich paint (ZRP) with reduced zinc content compared to the commercial paints used in the Brazilian market as a primer for high corrosion resistance paint systems. The project consists of three major stages, the first two of which will be developed in parallel and the third stage will depend on the success of the first two steps. These steps are: a) reduction of the zinc content in the paint formulation through the addition of zinc nanoparticles, to guarantee the electrical connection among the particles and between the particles and the substrate; b) synthesis of nanoparticles doped with a conductive polymer (polyaniline); c) incorporation of the nanoparticles doped with a conductive polymer (polyaniline) to the ZRP with a reduced zinc content, aiming at obtaining a ZRP capable of providing a coating with high cohesion, high adhesion to the substrate and a corrosion resistance equal to or greater than commercial paints available in the Brazilian market.
