Effect of transcutaneous electrostimulation on the analgesic efficacy of anesthetic blockade of the inferior alveolar nerve in irreversible pulpitis: A placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial.

Abstract

The main objective of the present study is to evaluate the effect of techniques that activate the inhibitory system of pain modulation, in the case, transcutaneous electrostimulation (TENS) on the intensity of pain after anaesthetic blockade and during the procedures of coronary opening, access to the pulp chamber and pulp excision in patients with clinical diagnosis of irreversible pulpitis of lower molars. Two groups of 22 subjects will be submitted to inferior alveolar nerve anaesthetic block and after to one of the following treatments:Group 1 = Ketorolac 10 mg + Active TENSGroup 2 = Ketorolac 10 mg + Placebo TENSAt the end of the procedure of each stage of endodontic therapy, subjects will be asked to respond on the intensity of their pain through a numerical scale of pain. The results of the present study have the potential to improve analgesic efficacy and thus improve alveolar nerve block during irreversible pulpitis therapy and in this way bring a quieter transoperative to the dentist and the patient. It will use minimally invasive and safe techniques that improve the way to control pain. (AU)
