Abstract

The main objectives of this study are to stablish intra and extraoral sensorial profile in subjects with clinical diagnostic of irreversible pulpitis and to compare these outcomes with health subjects. The sample will be constituted by 35 subjects with irreversible pulpitis (case group) and 35 health subjects paired for gender and age (control group). The main variables will be composed by a simplified battery of quantitative sensory testing (QST) that will be performed in the intraoral region (gingiva) and in the extraoral region (over infraorbital and mental nerves) and that evaluated alterations of tactile, thermal and painful sensitivity, as well as the psychosocial such as anxiety, depression, catastrophization degree, quality of life related to oral health and multidimensional characteristics of pain. In the case group, QST will be measured in two periods: a) baseline evaluation and b) after anesthesia, while in the control group the evaluations will be performed only once. The chi-square test (X2) e McNemar test will be counted to compare the differences in the proportions of sensorial abnormalities between the groups and before and after anesthesia in the case group (alpha =5%).
