Chile - São Paulo network on holography


This project intends to bring together a strong team of researchers to tackle two of the most important problems of theoretical physics. Namely, the description of strongly coupled phenomena and of quantum gravity. The strategy to be used is promising and fascinating, that is, the use of holographic duality. Holography is a precise mathematical tool that is realized through the AdS/CFT dictionary, which allows to use gravity to answer questions in the realm of quantum field theories and vice versa. Weshall apply these tools to field theory systems related to condensed matter, Chern-Simons theories and Yang-Mills theories, being associated to the description of gravitational systems described by wormholes, black holes and domain walls as well as to time dependent backgrounds. The proposal puts together specialists from different parts of the Chile. Concepción, Valparaíso, Santiago and Vina del Mar, joining forces to work together with the team from São Paulo. The proposal is built over an already existing collaboration where almost every researcher from Chile and São Paulo has a peer-reviewed publication with at least one other member of the team. This collaboration ensures the country-wide impact of the proposal with the involvement of the two largest graduate programs of Chile, the one of Universidad of Concepción and the program at Pontificia Católica Universidad de Valparaíso.
