Abstract

Today, humanity has come up against bleak predictions about Planet Earth's ability to support a continuously growing human population while resources are limited. Among these resources, one of the most essential are the food needed to healthily feed billions of people. It is perceived that the current species used for human consumption are reaching their limit of production, both in genetic and technological terms. This way, an alternative to try to mitigate this future realistic scenario of food shortage is the use of non-paradigmatic in large-scale foods, such as starch of bamboo. Although shoots of bamboo are consumed for millennia, bamboo in the form of shoots can not to be sufficient. However, some non-trivial technical challenges stand in the way of the large-scale use of bamboo for mass feeding of people through its starch. One of the main ones is the lack of mechanized systems properly designed to harvest and process these raw materials in large quantities. This project intends to present an advanced and innovative technological alternative for the processing of bamboo in order to obtain raw material for the production of fibers and starch. It is assumed that with the extensive and intensive use of robotics in processes and subsystems linked to the production of bamboo flour, it is possible to provide the food industry with a technologically and sanitary product. One breakthrough proposed by this project is the use of Laser to sterilize the stalks, in order to enable a raw material for the production of amide completely free of pathogens. (AU)
